THE OASIS is a dance guild dedicated to promoting a respected image for Middle Eastern Dance and to fostering understanding about the dance form through information and promotion media.

The foremost pursuit of the dance Guild is to be an information centre for MEDance in London , ON and the surrounding area. If someone wants to know about dance, how to contact a dancer for a show, where there are classes, etc. They only have to call THE OASIS. If dancers want to be known, have a way for people to get in touch with them or find out about performance opportunities they have only to sign up for a Guild list.

This information centre is set-up for verbal communication through the phone line, print communication through the Newsletter and electronic communication via the website and email.

THE OASIS also provides social entertainment and dance opportunities for Guild Associates as well as for the general public. Haflas, costume sales, dance productions are some of the open entertainments. Special activities open only to Associate members are planned in addition to the public events. Video nights, costume parties, general get togethers to talk about dance are all part of the Associate program.

THE OASIS is a dance guild managed by the Founder and an appointed Board of Directors. Subscription to the Guild is for networking and entertainment pursuits.

The Founder and Directors have final say on how the Guild is run. Suggestions are always welcomed from the Associates and subscribers but The Guild is not a club nor association. We do not have an elected board of directors nor do the Associates have voting privileges. Guild By-laws and directives are included as part of the application package to help dancers decide if Guild Association is for them.

A Committee Structure is set up to delegate the workload of providing these services. Associates will be expected to work on a minimum of one committee. Permanent Committees to date are:

Administrative: records, Minutes, etc. -- manages the Guild's files, records, policies, etc.
Financial: takes care of the financial records and activities of the Guild
Publicity & Promotion: looks after the marketing aspects of the Guild
Membership: records and maintains subscription lists, processes Associate applications
Production: organizes volunteers, provides behind the scene personal for Oasis events & productions: M.C., sound, lighting, props, etc.
Newsletter: produces THE OASIS newsletter
Dance Troupe: Arabian Oasis Dancers: performing troupe -- shows, demos, promotional gigs, etc.

MEDancers can apply to be a Guild Associate to actively help promote the dance through Guild activities or can sign up for a variety of information and advertising services at the Subscriber level. An application for Guild Association is available by contacting the dance Guild. This level of participation might not be for all dancers. People who like working on organizing events, promoting dance to the public, performing on behalf of the Guild and have the time to commit to such endeavors are best suited for the Associate level. Associates must agree to the Guild by-laws and policies upon acceptance as an Associate.

Guild Associates will be expected to :

have an avid interest in Middle Eastern Dance (MEDance)
be active in MEDance through classes (including workshops), teaching, or performing.
dedicate a mandatory work time to Guild Activities (i.e. committee work, etc.)
note Guild affiliation in their personal dance promotion
be willing to support Oasis functions

Guild Associates will receive:

The Oasis, the Guild's Newsletter (a year's subscription) $20 value
Preferred rates on many of the Guild services and activities Minimum 5% savings
Free ad space in the Newsletter (maximum 1/4 page) $42 value
Exclusive Guild Associate functions
Link to personal website on THE OASIS site or a feature webpage* in THE OASIS site. (* with 'Pro Package')
Option to join the dance troupe (the Arabian Oasis Dancers)

If you are interested in joining the Guild as an Associate, please contact us for our application package. A Guild Associate is a working partner of THE OASIS. It is not for everyone. If you think that you have the time to devote to helping to promote MEDance in the area or feel that you have a contribution to make to the dance, we would like to talk to you..

Guild Associate: $35.00* per year *A one time initiation fee applies in addition to the yearly dues.

Fees for Associates are due upon acceptance into the Guild and are non-refundable. Applications are processed as quickly as possible. Because the Associate member is required to work on Guild projects, etc. only those dancers who live in London or close proximity will be considered. Guild Founder and Managing Directors have final approval on Guild Associates.

Associates may recommend applicants for Associate status.
